Overnight transformation

Dear Reid,

Today you turned 6.

SIX!

Reid Wet

This year has been big for you.  You have grown into holding your own.  Some of the stages have been noisy, but your quiet confidence is refreshing around here.

There are so many things about you that make me catch my breath.

-Your big eyes - often partially covered with your hair.

-How you catch the humor in small things…and then get a huge grin while you turn it into a punchline.

-Your concentration on things that you love like drawing, building and daydreaming.

-Your tender heart for your brothers, our cat, babies and animals.

-The excitement you create around swimming, rollercoasters, waterslides, waves, go-karts, four wheelers, and anything fast and/or dangerous.

-Your protesting tolerance of my kisses, but willing acceptance of my hugs.

The funny thing is that the moment  we picked the name Ryan for your older brother, I felt a need for a Reid.

It didn’t make sense then, but it makes perfect sense now.

You are in the middle.  You are the glue.  You are the heart.

Tonight as I tucked you into bed with your blue and white blanket clutched to your chest and your thumb inching toward your mouth with heavy eyelids and footy pajamas you look to me like you did yesterday and the day before and the day before

How do you awaken so grown up?

Love,

Mommy

Aww, it really is bittersweet feeling the time flying (or crawling) sometimes.

This is lovely. I am in awe of your ability to zero in on the power of small, and reflect how important it really is. Happy birthday, Reid!
