Around my house pizza is a basic part of the food pyramid.

One of the essential food groups.

pizza buns

This is an unusual pizza recipe, but is a favorite of my family’s…extraordinary pizza buns.

This is a recipe I married into.

It is my mother-in-laws yummy recipe which is unlike anything else I have ever tasted.

Holly’s Mother-in-law’s Extraordinary Pizza Buns:

  • 1 stick of butter
  • 1 chopped onion
  • 3 cans (small) Tomato Paste
  • 1 T Soy Sauce
  • 1 T Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 T Mustard
  • 1/2 t oregano
  • 1 t salt
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese
  • 3 cups grated cheddar cheese
  • 2 cans (small) chopped black olives – drained
  • 3 bags of English Muffin 6 packs

microwaved onions

First: Microwave the butter and onions until the onion is clear (it takes me about 5-7 minutes usually) then Cuisinart the mixture – totally a verb.

Meanwhile: Combine all the other ingredients in a large bowl and stir together.  Add the onion and butter mixture when completed.

Toast the English muffins slightly.

Spread a 1/2 inch deep layer of the mixture onto each English muffin.

Bake at 350 until warm and toasty – usually about 10 to 12 minutes.

I make up what we will eat for each meal and keep the remaining mixture in the fridge for later use…

Yum.

I might actually try this…these are ingredients I almost always have in the house! Too bad I didn’t have this recipe to try during my pizza blast! (http://www.homemakerspensieve.com/2010/06/22/pizza-blast-results-are-in/)

That looks delicious and easy. Question: seems like a whole lotta onion. Too much for young boys or does it really blend once it’s cooked and Cuisinarted?

You could use a smaller onion, but what has the strongest and what I consider least kid friendly taste is the worchestershire sauce. My kids love it, but I could see where that might be a problem. If trying it for the first time you could go light on that and the onion.

Sounds really good. We love pizza, too (having it tonight, in fact!) and I have some English Muffin Pizza recipes on my site.

I made a Pioneer Woman recipe tonight and it was so good I felt the need to share it with the world (or my 126 followers and my Mom)

:) This looks GOOD!

I’m infamously a wreck in the kitchen. I once melted a spatula on top of pierogies and didn’t even realize it until my son almost ate it.

But this appears to be something even I can with minimal screw-ups. Thanks for sharing!
