the price of a popsicle

April 29, 2010

in kids say,mom says

My older boys only have one more full week of school.

*gasp*

We are quickly winding down to the inevitable end of school parties, projects and events.

Reid(6) came home today with the excited announcement that his first grade class earned the last needed tally mark on the board today to receive a Popsicle party next Wednesday.

He reported that the class received tally marks for good behavior and not talking in class and they needed to get to the 10th mark before next week to make the party a reality.

It must have been touch and go for awhile because he expressed some surprise that his class made it to the necessary tally mark total.

Ryan(9) started downplaying the class’s achievement to which I responded with a Shush! and a mommy look.

You know, THAT mommy look.

The mommy look of don’t say another word or else the world as you know it ends today kinda look.

Ryan shot back with a WHAT? followed by this gem…

I can get a Popsicle at school anytime I want one.  All I have to do is get hit in the mouth and make my lip bleed.

Genius.

Wow that is some crazy logic to get a Popsicle, I don;t think taking a punch to the face is worth it.

ONE WEEK??? ONE.WEEK???? Are you fully stocked on wine, duct tape, and earplugs? (Note to self: stock up on wine, duct tape, and ear plugs…summer is coming). ;)

Genius is exactly the word that comes to mind. I bet the boys help each other to get popsicles all summer long.

Now that’s a “get what I want” strategy that you have to respect. That demonstrates a kind of commitment that you just don’t see very often in your average 9-year-old-popsicle-officianado.

ha! I like that boy. I often give my older one the “MommyLook” when she is about to correct her younger sister; we do not always need to be right and be bossy. I just wrote about popsicles yetserday, but for a very different reason…http://elzabelz.blogspot.com/2010/04/love-thursday-popsicles.html
…and no cute picture.

Woah, with that response, I’m betting he just might make it happen.

BTW, that “mommy” look is pretty similar to a “teacher” look, isn’t it?

If a popsicle is worth a punch in the face, I wonder what he would do for a whole box of popsicles. Hmmm . . .

Ha! Love it! My kids could bruise their elbow and think it warrants a popsicle :)

In some alternate universe, you’re applauding at Reid popping Ryan in the mouth and saying ‘what color popsicle do you want?’.

Hope that’s not a sign of impending (future) insurance fraud!
HA HA
Out of the mouths of babes, right?!
It has been a while since I popped by – thought I’d peek in!
Glad I did – got a good giggle!

I’m laughing too hard at Manic Mommy’s comment to leave anything clever.

Curious though, did Ryan mention what he says/does to get popped in he face? Or is it self-inflicted? Different levels of genius – Eeeeeevil or Super.

Older siblings are such bubble bursters. Even if they are clever.

Hurray for popsicles!
