my butt is burning: the story

May 25, 2010
Thumbnail image for my butt is burning: the story

A few years ago in celebration of our 15th wedding anniversary, I took blog-Stedman to Las Vegas.
I made all the arrangements as a surprise.
He really doesn’t like to travel and he hates surprises so I obviously wasn’t paying attention in our marriage at that point, but that is not this story.

I had reserved a rental [...]

chirp. chirp.

May 19, 2010

All through the house not a creature was stirring,
Not even a mouse.

No one should be stirring!
It was 2:30 am.

Chirp. Chirp?
I don’t hear anything.
*pause*
*silence*
*keep listening*
*nothing*

Chirp. Chirp?
CRAP.
Where is it coming from?
*pause*
*silence*
*keep listening*
*nothing*
Chirp. Chirp.
CRAP.
Where is it coming from?
*turn on lights*

We spread out to listen.
The chirp. chirp. is not frequent.
The chirp. chirp. is separated from the next chirp. [...]

Some things should just stay in Vegas

September 28, 2009

Blog-Stedman and I went to Las Vegas last week.  It was a planned trip that we agonized over for a few weeks to assure that we could afford to go.  It is no shock to those who know us that our approach to gambling is a bit different.  Blog-Stedman is a low risk taker [...]

How the Tooth Fairy amuses herself

June 2, 2009

Ryan(8) has only lost a few teeth.

He is not wild about having a loose tooth, but even less wild about the actual loss process.  So the tooth hangs by a thread for weeks…
It isn’t pretty.
Last Friday, blog-Stedman had an out of town appointment in Shreveport which is a 3 1/2 hour drive from our house.  [...]

A quick trip to the grocery store

February 17, 2009

My grocery list:

Oh, are you going to the store?
Can you pick up a few things?
Let me just add a few details to my list for you.

Hmmmm…let me be a little bit more specific.

Wait.
I thought of a few more things.
It is kinda confusing.
Let me have that list!

Maybe I should just go myself…

My baggage

January 30, 2009

One of my all time favorite TV episodes was the Baggage episode of Everybody Loves Raymond.
It portrays the pinnacle of a couple’s passive-aggressive fighting with perfection.
They share a suitcase on a weekend trip.
When they return it gets placed on the stair landing.
Where it sits for days, and then weeks.
Clothes that were packed inside the suitcase [...]

First came pride, and then…

January 23, 2009

I ski pretty well for a girl.

I have gotten to the point that I know I can make it to the bottom of any hill. It just might not be pretty.
We started skiing regularly enough about 4 years ago that I bought my own skis. off the internet. on a discount.
I love my [...]

Free to a good home

January 16, 2009

We are an at-home family.
I am a stay-at-home mom.
Blog-Stedman now works from home.
My two youngest are not in school.
My oldest is partially home-schooled.
At home. At home. At home. At home.
When blog-Stedman was considering making a change to work entirely from home we had quite a few discussions as to how all this [...]

He loves me.

December 30, 2008

December is a crazy month here at the Nirvana.

Rhett’s birthday is the 15th.
Christmas comes 10 days later.
Our wedding anniversary is the 29th.
New Year’s Eve.
And then the craziness moves into the new year with New Year’s Day, my birthday and blog-Stedman’s birthday within the next month and 1/2 and we haven’t even mentioned Valentines Day.
By Valentines [...]

The march of the Nirvana penguins

December 23, 2008

It has been cold here this week.

Not in a ‘Oh poor shivering Texans it is 55 degrees‘ kinda way.
More of a ‘How can Texas be so cold?‘ kinda way.
I know that I am not getting any sympathy from Northern readers, but you have to remember that there is a reason I live in Texas…it is [...]

O Tannenbaum! Gesundheit!

December 11, 2008

Blog-Stedman and I have celebrated 18 Christmases together. 15 of those have been celebrated under the plastic boughs of a faux-tree.

The first few Christmases we had a fake fir for financial reasons. Once we were a bit more established (Christmas #4) we jumped in our Cherokee and drove to a local tree farm.
I love [...]
