the great escape

July 28, 2010

The boys are running away tomorrow.
It will certainly be quiet around here.

Their plan was initially to be implemented today, but they realized they would miss robotic camp in the morning if they were gone.
They have carefully packed:  a bucket full of Easter candy, two large bags of chips, a wooden spoon, a sign, a butterfinger [...]

reading attack

July 27, 2010

My boys tolerate my blogging.
When I pull out my camera, they either scream and run or start making faces that they know I won’t photograph.
*sigh*
When I pull out my video camera, their reaction intensifies.
This week I wanted to do a video for the VTech V.Reader as a part of the final week of the VTech [...]

ode to step stools – the giveaway

July 26, 2010

As the boys have grown and I have tried to give them the opportunity to be more independent.
Independent = not screaming for me every moment of every day.
One of the things that is EXTREMELY helpful in this independence endeavor is the stool.
Because I believe that there is no excuse for ugly ANYTHING, I look at [...]

boy + dog + pool

July 25, 2010
Thumbnail image for boy + dog + pool

We spent the day at the pool (not ours) with a dog (not ours) and it was pretty magical.
Reid(7) and Taffy(dog years) splashed, swam, jumped and fetched for hours.
At first Reid was throwing a ring into the pool for Taffy to fetch.
Then Taffy started dropping a torpedo into the deep end for Reid to fetch.
After [...]

summer park

We visited Winter Park, CO on Sunday.
Get it?
The title of this post is Summer Park.
And it is really Winter Park.
A few days of vacation can really unleash my creativity.

Winter Park has an alpine slide that requires anyone over 45 inches to ride alone.
My first impression was…obviously, they haven’t seen Reid(7) drive.
So, we lined the boys [...]

if you give a kid a cookie

July 7, 2010
Thumbnail image for if you give a kid a cookie

Before I had children, I loved the Laura Numeroff books.
If You Give a Moose a Muffin
If You Give a Mouse a Cookie
If You Give  a Pig a Pancake
Now they just hit too close to home to be funny.
My children are the Moose, the Mouse and the Pig.

There is no end to their string of requests.
A [...]

daily bread

June 29, 2010
Thumbnail image for daily bread

I have a little issue with bread.
I like bread.
So does my offspring.
Blog-Stedman is more of a meat and potatoes (minus the potatoes) kinda guy, but he is a bread snob.  For instance, he requires the proper type of bread for each situation.
Don’t even think about putting a hot dog into a modified hamburger bun…that won’t [...]

Thumbnail image for book recommendations for 4th grade boy

I needed help finding books that my 9 year old boy would read.  You helped me…THANKS.
Here is the recommended book list for Fourth grade boys listed by the most often suggested.
I see several that we have read and added my comments – I will be updating those as we continue through the list this summer…and [...]

the f word

June 15, 2010

It was early fall.
The boys and I were driving somewhere in the minivan.  I was listening to the radio and the three of them were quietly chatting in the backseat.
A little too quietly.

I turned down the radio a bit and started listening to what they were so passionately discussing.  They were talking about BAD words.  [...]

covet thy brother

June 9, 2010
Thumbnail image for covet thy brother

I know it is hard to believe, but sometimes my boys annoy each other…
*gasp*
I suspect that whomever coined the phrase “brotherly love” was probably just dreaming.
Dreaming of peace and quiet.

Awhile back, I heard the words “I wish you weren’t my brother” come out of one of their mouths.
I don’t ever remember which one said it.
It [...]
